The odd teaser aside there's little in the way of official Galaxy S6 information from Samsung yet, but the company may have just revealed the processor that it's going to be using.

Samsung's announced that mass production of its 14nm Exynos 7 octa-core chipset is now under way. The Exynos 7 Octa isn't an entirely new thing, but previously the company was using a 20nm version, while this smaller 14nm version is supposedly 20% faster and 35% more power efficient.

In theory that should result in both more power and a longer battery life, so it's quite a substantial boost.

Now what we don't know for sure is whether this chipset will actually be used in the Galaxy S6, so don't get too attached to the idea, but Samsung claims that it's heading to high-end handsets as you'd expect and an Exynos 7 has long been rumoured for the company's next flagship, after it emerged that the Snapdragon 810 had reportedly been dropped.

The Samsung Galaxy S Edge is another prime candidate for the chipset, but if Samsung is able to quickly produce it in large enough quantities we'd expect to see it in both the S6 and the S Edge.

We hope that happens too, because as the industry's first mass produced 14nm chip it could be a big selling point for Samsung's next phone, especially if it really does lead to as much of a performance boost as the company promises.
