Honor has announced a new smartphone for the UK market and it is letting users decide the price. See also: Best budget smartphones of 2015.
We've already had the Honor 6 and Honor 3C but the Honor Holly will arrive in Blighty this month. Already an existing device elsewhere the firm backed by Huawei is expanding in range in the UK and is using an interesting method to decide its cost.
The Honor Holly will launch on 23 February but the final price won't be announced until that day. Between now and then you can have a say on how much it costs – the most people to pre-register, the lower it goes.
The firm said it is: "calling for Digital Natives to unite, register online and control the price so they can shoot, store and share their brave moments at the price they deserve."
Honor told us at the London launch for the device that the base price (RRP) will be £109 and at certain milestones (yet to be decided) the figure will drop. There will be a maximum amount of registrations taken and therefore a limit to how far it will drop. The firm indicated the limit for registrations will be tens of thousands.
Once the final price is decided, those who pre-register will be able to decide whether to go ahead and buy the Holly on a first come first served basis.
If you're interested in the idea, the Honor Holly comes with a 5in IPS HD screen, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 16 GB of storage and an 8 Mp BSI camera. It also features dual-SIM support and a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
Unfortunately there's no 4G LTE support and the phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat rather than 5.0 Lollipop which is now out. The firm's EMUI 3.0 which is rolling out to the Honor 6 will only arrive on the Holly if there is enough demand from users.
