Huawei Mate 20 leaks are coming thick and fast

A couple of leaks have appeared in tandem for the Huawei Mate 20 and the lower spec, cheaper Huawei Mate 20 Lite, revealing pretty much all the specs as well as a load of pictures showcasing the design.

And make no mistake: these two handsets could be HUGE for Huawei – the company has had an exceptional couple of year’s worth of growth.

It’s now nipping at Apple and Samsung’s heels. Another couple of years and Huawei could well be the world’s #1 phone maker.

"The continued growth of Huawei is impressive, to say the least, as is its ability to move into markets where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown," said Ryan Reith, program vice president with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.

"It is worth noting that Apple moved into the top position each of the last two holiday quarters following its product refresh, so it's likely we'll see continued movement among the top ranked companies in 2018 and beyond.

“For most markets, the ultra-high end ($700+) competition is largely some combination of Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, depending on the geography, and this is unlikely to change much in the short term. At the same time, Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo are all slowly pushing their customer base upstream at a price tier slightly lower than the top three. This is an area they should all watch closely as the builds in this segment are getting increasingly more advanced."

Huawei Mate 20 Design In Pictures

First up, the main leak comes via the reputable XDA-Developers forum, where a user uploaded renders which are said to be based on having viewed the actual real-life Huawei Mate 20. The posters managed to get hold of photos of an engineering sample of the regular Mate 20 and then created these renders from them.

There are a few caveats though; the rear of the phone wasn't shown in the photos, and the dimensions were also not known when rendering the handset. In addition, it's not known what the final button placement layout is going to be like.

The front notch is described as a "water droplet" design, which is much smaller and doesn't take up much of the display. There will be no keys on the front of the phone, it'll be all screen. The handset will also have a 3.5mm headphone jack and Type-C USB port, as well as two speakers; one top and one bottom.

While the rear panel wasn't seen in the photos, it is shown in the renders based on what we've already heard; a rear fingerprint scanner, a triple-sensor camera, and a glass backing for wirless charging purposes.
