Minix Neo Z64 UK release date and price
The Minix Neo is now on sale at Geekbuying.com. Geekbuying.com offers free shipping to the UK and will include the correct AC adaptor for your country of residence.
Two versions are available: the Minix Neo Z64Aruns Android KitKat and costs $144.90 (around £96), while the Minix Neo Z64Wruns Windows 8.1 with Bing and costs $174.90 (around £116).
What is Windows 8.1 with Bing?
Windows 8.1 with Bing offers the full Windows 8.1 experience, but it is free to OEMs and enables them to sell cheaper Windows computers.
The only difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 with Bing is that by default the latter uses Bing as the default search engine, and OEMs are not allowed to change this before they ship the product.
You don't have to stick with Bing, of course. We show you how to change the default search engine in Internet Explorer here.
Minix Neo Z64 specs
As we mentioned above, the Minix Neo Z64 comes in Android KitKat and Windows 8.1 with Bing varieties. The remaining specs are the same across the two devices, with highlights including a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3735F chip running at up to 1.83GHz, Intel HD graphics, 2GB of DDR3L RAM and 32GB of memory. The latter might seem small, but with two USB 2.0 ports and a microSD slot (supporting up to 32GB) it's easy to add external storage, as well as a keyboard or mouse. A remote control is supplied in the box.
You also get an HDMI connection for hooking the Minix Neo Z64 up to an external display, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack. Media file support includes full-HD (1080p) API/MOV/MP4/RMVB/FLV/MKV video, MP3/WMA/WAV/APE/AAC/FLAC/OGG audio and various image formats. You'll find the XBMC Minix Edition media player preinstalled, too.
The Minix Neo Z64 is a small black plastic box, just 115x115x23mm and 275g, that looks very much like an Apple TV with an aerial. Connectivity includes 802.11n Wi-Fi (with hotspot sharing), Bluetooth 4.0 and 10/100Mb/s ethernet.
