Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact specs
Sony claims the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is the world's slimmest and lightest compact tablet, at 6.4mm and 270g. In common with theSony Xperia Z3it also supports PS4 Remote Play, allowing you to enjoy PlayStation 4 games on your tablet, and it supports high-resolution audio (lower-quality music can be upscaled with DSEE HX).
The Z3 and Z3 Tablet Compact share many of the same specs, with both phone and tablet running Android KitKat 4.4.4 and featuring a 2.5GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon 801 quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, Adreno 330 graphics and 16GB of storage (plus microSD support up to 128GB). Both are also IP65/68-certified dust- and waterproof.
The key difference is in the screen and the physical dimensions: whereas the Z3 has a 5.2in full-HD panel the Z3 Tablet Compact has an 8in 1920x1200 display, which uses Triluminos and X-Reality tech and is covered with tempered glass and an anti-fingerprint coating. Naturally the tablet is also larger and heavier, measuring 213.4x123.6x6.4mm and weighing 270g. Just two colour options are available for the Tablet Compact, though - black or white, and not the Z3's copper and silver green.
Unsurprisingly, for a tablet, the Z3 Tablet Compact has a larger-capacity 4,500mAh battery (with Sony's Stamina power-saving mode) and a lesser-specified main camera - 8.1Mp (full-HD video) at the back and 2.1Mp at the front. Nevertheles you'll find the same special camera features as the Z3 in Movie Creator, Sound Photo, AR fun, Face in and Multi-Camera.
Connectivity stretches to dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, NFC, GPS and GLONASS. As we mentioned above a 4G version will also be available.
