What to expect from MWC 2015

CES 2015 in Las Vegas has already been and gone so our thoughts turn to MWC 2015 in Barcelona where many of this year's smartphones and tablets will be launched. Here's what to expect from MWC 2015 from the big names including Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and others. Also see:15 best new phones you should be most excited about in 2015.

Scheduled for 2-5 March, MWC 2015 is only a matter of weeks away. For all you fans of mobile tech products it's the highlight of the calendar with CES only bringing a handful of devices this year – namely the LG G Flex 2.

We'll be heading to mainland Europe to bring you full coverage of the show but until then let's take a look at what to expect from the big names which will be exhibiting in Barcelona including smartphones, tablets and wearables.

What to expect from MWC 2015: Samsung

With zero announcements on the mobile side from Samsung at CES, MWC will be an important time for the Korean company. We will certainly get an overview of the firm's plans for 2015 – at least for the first half.

Samsung will almost certainly hold an Unpacked event very close to the show where it will announce the Galaxy S6. All eyes will be on the flagship device but Samsung is unlikely to stop there with a Galaxy S6 mini, Galaxy A7 and others all possible.

On the wearable front, Samsung will supposedly challenge Motorola, LG and others with a round smartwatch codenamed the 'Orbis' which will come with wireless charging, according to SamMobile.

Note: If you're a fan of the Galaxy Note range, Samsung traditionally launches new models later on in the year in September at IFA. That's when to expect the Galaxy Note5 unless Samsung makes a dramatic change to its roadmap.

What to expect from MWC 2015: HTC

There are two products which we have a good idea HTC will launch at MWC and it has already sent out a save the date for Sunday 1 March which says 'Join us to see what's next' and the tag line 'Utopia in progress' (see below).

The event starts at 4pm CET and we fully expect HTC to announce its new flagship smartphone in the form of the HTC One M9 'Hima'. A mini version is always a good possibility but may be announced shortly after MWC.

HTC is also likely to, at long last, announce its entry to the wearable market – currently dubbed the HTC One Wear – and will be announced in partnership with Under Armour.

What to expect from MWC 2015: Sony

Like Samsung, Sony stuck to other areas at CES despite rumours of the Xperia Z4 being unveiled. This seemed unlikely given the firm's six month cycle on flagship handsets.

With the Xperia Z3 range arriving at IFA in September last year, MWC 2015 is spot on for the announcement of a Z4 range which will almost certainly include the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z4 Compact. It wouldn't be surprising if Sony introduced a new tablet or two but sizes are unclear at the moment.

Sony is probable to introduce new wearable products to its SmartWear range following the launch of the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk last year.

What to expect from MWC 2015: LG

LG is the other manufacturer in the big four for MWC and although it did announce the LG G Flex 2 at CES, we're expecting a lot more in Barcelona.

Last year, LG announced the G3 at a London based event in May so it's no certainty that the G4 will arrive in March at MWC. However, there's a good chance and the firm will probably announce other smartphones and tablets such as new L-series devices and hopefully a replacement for the LG G Pad 8.3. Read all the LG G4 rumours here.

On the wearable side of things, we wouldn't be surprised to see something new to follow on from the LG G Watch and LG G Watch R. Perhaps something more on the fitness tracker side of things.
