Huawei's Mate 9 series is now updating to Android Oreo

Huawei is now pushing out over-the-air Android Oreo updates to the Huawei Mate 9 family, including the Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche Design. As well as bringing the handsets up to date with the new Oreo features, the update introduces the latest version of Huawei's Emotion UI (EMUI) up to EMUI 8.0.

EMUI 8.0 (up from the Android Nougat-based EMUI 5.0) brings some of the Huawei Mate 10's AI features, including a digital assistant with voice command support and translation capabilities. Another Mate 10 feature which has now migrated is the built-in desktop mode, known as "Projection", which allows you to use your phone as a PC by connecting it to peripheral devices.

Users should be receiving a prompt to update OTA on unlocked devices, carrier-locked phones may take a little longer, however, you can check if the update is available to you by using Huawei's HiCare application on your phone. The update began in China and as usual is a phased rollout, so it may take a little bit of time to reach other regions.
