Samsung is reportedly improving productivity on the Galaxy Note 6 with a custom-made hub interface

Paul Briden 13:47, 11 May 2016

Samsung's Galaxy Note series has appealed to a variety of users, for some it's just about the big screen real estate, while for others it's the love of having an S-Pen stylus, and there's no denying that every iteration has been packed with as much high-end hardware as its Galaxy S flagship counterpart; so it stands alone as a competetive device purely on specs.

While surely not every Note user is some kind of high-flying businessman with a penchant for productivity features, such capabilities have formed a cornerstone of the Galaxy Note design for a very long time, and more have been added with every iteration. The last couple of generations have seen an increasing emphasis on multi-window, split-screen multitasking, but the Galaxy Note 6 could be poised to go one further with a purpose-built productivity hub interface.

According to SamMobile's sources, the Galaxy Note 6 will debut a new interface called "Samsung Focus", a productivity hub which sounds not too disimilar to the BlackBerry Hub seen aboard BlackBerry's last few handsets - a feature that was highly praised by many who used BlackBerry's latest devices.

Just like BlackBerry Hub, Samsung Focus reportedly acts as a communications aggregation hub, bringing together, amongst other things, emails from a selection of different sources - again as with BB Hub, the idea is to eliminate the inconvenience of hopping between applications. As with BB Hub it will also show calendar info, contacts, and memo notes in the same interface too - there may be more, but so far this is all that the source has revealed.

Another interesting snippet, however, is that this will reportedly be a very Material design faithful app, Samsung allegedly doesn't want it to be too fussy so that its as user-friendly as possible. There aren't any images at present but we expect this feature to be a key selling point of the device, so we're also expecting plenty more leaks in the coming months and hopefully will see more of it then.
