Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will get official before Apple’s iPhone 8, reports suggest

Remember the Xiaomi Mi Mix? It was a phone that packed in a stunning edgeless display WAY before anyone else was doing it.

Well, Xiaomi is planning a sequel in the form of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and reports suggest it could well launch before Apple’s incoming iPhone 8.

Often called the Apple of China, Xiaomi is no stranger to attention in the UK and USA. The company makes exceptional phones at absurdly low prices. People like this approach, which is why it is one of the fastest growing tech companies in history.

Google’s Hugo Barra even defected to Xiaomi, showing just how much the company has developed in recent times, though, arguably, its most ambitious phone to-date was Mi Mix – it was also its most expensive.

Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 on Chinese social network Weibo, where it leaked a promo poster for the phone that details its shape and styling, though not much else.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2's front will be ALL display with zero breaks in the design, save for the bottom of the handset, likely why it is hidden behind the rocks.

Both Essential and, apparently, Apple has not been able to achieve a truly all encompassing display with their respective flagships, though it looks as if Xiaomi is going to have a seriously good go at achieving it.

“The phone is expected to have a 6.4-inch display with 2560 x 1440 resolution,” reports BGR, “a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB of storage, and a 4,500 mAh battery.”

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will also be A LOT cheaper than Apple’s iPhone X when it launches. Apple’s new iPhone flagship is expected to retail for well over $1000, making it the most expensive iPhone in history.

CNBC reckons Apple will leverage its software in a bid to make the hefty price tag seem less daunting:

"Adding Apple services may be a way to lure buyers to the higher-end offering. Moskowitz estimates the free one-year subscriptions of Music and iCloud, worth $120 and $36, will cost Apple $43 and $7 to service.

“Such a move could make a $1,000+ iPhone 8 seem more within reach, with the $156 in services serving as a quasi-discount or rebate.”

Having said that, Apple’s never really had any issues in the past selling high end goods to lots of consumers. And when you factor in the apparent design changes planned for the iPhone X, it seems like most will be more than willing to pay the high asking price for the phone.

Finger’s crossed Xiaomi will bring this phone to the UK and USA. Plans are said to be afoot that’d see the brand launch products in the UK and USA during 2018.

In the meantime, GearBest is basically your best bet for picking up Xiaomi handsets in the US and UK. And if you haven't seen just how much phone you can get for under £200, I strongly suggest you take a look at what's on offer – some of the phones are brilliant and insanely cheap.
